The deadline for the novella is drawing near with each passing day. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and getting there I’m sure I can reach…. BUT my alien is not cooperating. She has decided to take a turn I wasn’t very interested in originally, and she is determined to follow said path. The hero, being the sport he is, is following along because, believe it or not, his fellow hero of said story – said alien -, has made a very interesting and logical argument for moving the story in the vein it’s currently going.
I have been letting the story go because it has been interesting. Little by little, I’ve been re-routing some of the information I feel should be in the story to tie up some loose ends and am surprised to say it is working!
Does the new information make the story better? In some ways yes, in others…not so much. What it does do is give the characters some extra room to be who they are. With this room, I can see much better character development and, if I choose, there is enough room to create another story using these same characters. This is a most pleasant surprise.
In non-writing related news – I have been knitting. A lot.
