Rainy, Writerly Tuesday

It is raining.  It began raining last night.  It has rained all day.  The rain can’t get to me today because a) the sun lamp is on; and b) I’m writing.  I am actually writing a lot!  These days rarely happen more than once a week in my experience, and to have two days with words flowing well I feel blessed, and am making sure to take advantage of it.  This is why there wasn’t a “Movie Monday” post yesterday.

The main problem is:  The words are flowing and there is a planned post for “Movie Monday”, but The Husband took off work yesterday and it was simply wrong not to hang with him while I could.  There was a good amount of work done yesterday – I just couldn’t get to everything.  *le sigh*

The short story going up on Patreon is 3,140 words!  It is nearing its conclusion.  I am quite proud of this piece.  Why?  Because normally I don’t write short stories.  It isn’t the best thing I’ve ever written, but it is a good story and I am looking forward to putting it up on the site.  Hopefully people will read it, like it, and pay for it.

So much has changed for writers with the invention of portable computers and the Internet.  Some view the self-publishing world as the easier forum to break into, and it is, but it is also a wonderful teaching tool for when you send pieces to magazines and book publishers.  As you get better with your craft with feedback and “lessons learned” it should be easier to submit pieces to publishers for consideration.  Just never forget to always be professional in your craft.  It also helps to remember not everyone will like what you write, and, yes, it hurts when these people pop up.  For the most part I am discovering people are good with their criticism and those who are not don’t really seem to be happy with anything from anywhere.

My lunch break is over, so I need to get back to the ink mines!  Hope you day is productive!  Stay dry and warm; and don’t forget to take breaks for warm snuggles with your fur-babies!

About Henrietta Handy

I have returned home to the mountains. No more am I "a mountain-girl far from home." Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 2 1/2, I understand pain, fatigue, laughter, joy, and love all while on crutches and in wheelchairs. This blog is just about me, mostly the writing side, but there are forays into so many different topics. I am married to a wonderful husband who puts up with my writing, knitting, yarn, with the love of a saint. We have fur babies, and one cat who rules us all.
