Advent Day 13 – My Melanie

When I was ten years old I was in the hospital.  The doctors didn’t know if I was going to make it or not.  On December 13 Sister 3, Rosetta, gave birth to the most beautiful creature in the world to me – Melanie.  Because I was in such bad shape, I got to hold Melanie the day she was born before being transferred to a different hospital.

As you can see, I made it through and growing up with Melanie is a time I genuinely cherish.  Melanie became the little sister I never had, and one of my greatest, truest friends.  Not being able to see her when I want or be able to talk to her every day, she is one of the reasons this day of Advent is so very special.

Just wait until I show you a photo of Melanie’s beautiful daughter!

About Henrietta Handy

I have returned home to the mountains. No more am I "a mountain-girl far from home." Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 2 1/2, I understand pain, fatigue, laughter, joy, and love all while on crutches and in wheelchairs. This blog is just about me, mostly the writing side, but there are forays into so many different topics. I am married to a wonderful husband who puts up with my writing, knitting, yarn, with the love of a saint. We have fur babies, and one cat who rules us all.
