Here Goes Everything!

Today is the first day I have entered the office in a few weeks.  It feels wonderful sitting in front of my computer and typing on my keyboard.  As the Writing Desk TwoCinderella song says, this is “my little corner” of the world, and I have missed it.  I didn’t know I missed it because I have felt so damn bad, but being in here again, surrounded by my books, my clutter of papers, my dogs, and sunshine streaming in through the open blinds gives me the distinct feeling everything is back to normal, or soon will be.  Of course, I am going to have to be very diligent about energy expulsion; still, this is truly a small price to pay for being back doing the thing I love to do most in the world (other than love The Husband and my fur-babies) – write.

Ideas are flooding my head.  Some of them pull me up a little short to say, “Where did that come from?” while others cause me to nod and agree the plot is “plausible” and would be “very interesting to write.”

Along with the story ideas there has come a major decision in my writing life.  I am nervous as heck about it, but determined just the same.  I don’t know if it is a good idea or a bad one, and, quite honestly, I won’t know until it all starts rolling:  I am going to self-publish some things on Kindle and Nook.  No, I am not stopping submissions to magazines and publishing houses.  I am just tired of rejection slips that are either form, or say, “We loved this piece but the magazine is full this time ’round.  Please continue to submit to {us}!”  This tells me a) my stuff is good enough to be published, and b) somehow I am just missing out on timing.  So, from here on out I am putting some things on Kindle and Nook.  I need some extra money for one thing, and for another, I am just tired of that missing-the-time-submission thing.  Could this be a way to boost my writing?  I am nervous about it, but determined, and more than a little excited.

When the first story is on Kindle I will pass it along here.  I hope you can support me by checking it out.

Here goes everything, folks!

About Henrietta Handy

I have returned home to the mountains. No more am I "a mountain-girl far from home." Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 2 1/2, I understand pain, fatigue, laughter, joy, and love all while on crutches and in wheelchairs. This blog is just about me, mostly the writing side, but there are forays into so many different topics. I am married to a wonderful husband who puts up with my writing, knitting, yarn, with the love of a saint. We have fur babies, and one cat who rules us all.

  1. Appreciating the commitment you put into your website and detailed information you
offer. It’s nice to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the
same outdated rehashed material. Excellent read!
I’ve saved your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.

  2. I enjoyed reading the passages from the book on your blog. Please post when the book is available through Kindle. I hope you are not dissuaded from the rejections and will continue your dream to publish.
