Writing. Writing. Writing. Erasing. Saving. New words and old words combine to make a novel when you are in the throes of a re-write like I am. Because last week was such a difficult writing week, I had almost decided to just let the story rest the weekend and pick up with Monday, but my body decided to add a few days to the resting period.
It gets quite tiresome when the body dictates what you do regardless of what you actually want to do. Sometimes it even makes you downright depressed; however, this last little while has proven to be good for the novel because today it is flowing quite nicely and I can see little trickles of notes and threads that should be picked up and carried forward and others that should just be left alone, or removed completely.
As you know, when I write, music accompanies the activity of putting words down, whether on the screen or a notebook and then to the screen. With WHRT I have been playing Pandora and I can safely say choosing a “soundtrack” for this novel is proving quite difficult. I have tried new age, classical, punk, doo wop, country (new and old), and everything in between and nothing seems to fit, work. Could it be I am too wrapped up in selecting music instead of just letting the words come out with whatever is playing?
Fight scenes, of course, are quite easy when you have the soundtrack for Conan the Barbarian playing.
